According to Anne Bayefsky, editor of Eye On The U.N.: "The UN Budget and UN Reform: Never the Twain Shall Meet," Ms Condi Rice gave the word, and now the withheld U. S. funds flow to the "United Nations." As a result, the UN has lifted its spending cap. AND NOT ONE REFORM HAPPENED. John Bolton must be puking into the bucket with something worse than hyperemesis gravidarum.
(Read all Anne Bayefsky says, if you can stomach it. Eye On The U.N. is a terrific website worthy of bookmarking.)
You know the old joke about people fumbling in their pockets when the dinner check comes, and the winner is the one who out-fumbles the others, letting the others pick up the check. The UN outfumbled us.
Why? Ask Righteous George and Ms Rice, the disintegrating duo. When I turn to reason and logic, I run into an impasse and draw a blank. When I look at the rest of Righteous George's behavior, I get a gut feeling for "why."
We pay 22% of the general UN budget and billions more in all sorts of UN thises and thats. The rejoinder then to withholding those funds vital to the survival of the UN is that the UN will simply remove the US from all sorts of councils, committees, and other assemblies, leaving us no say.
The rejoinder to the rejoinder is even simpler: So what?
The UN not only is useless, it is absolutely evil. It perpetrates hideous policies which abrogate the rights of humans all over the world, in favor of the worst despots on earth. If an earthquake shook the UN into the East River, leaving the UN without facilities, it would be Mother Nature's way of taking out the garbage. Only bricks and mortar would be lost, and nothing important. We would have been given a chance to start over, however.
We do not need to wait for earthquakes or asteroids to land on the UN to start over. Morally, we have every right to throw the UN out of the US while withdrawing totally from it. Something like, "You have two weeks to get the hell out of the US lock-stock-and-barrel, and never come back."
We would invoke a new paradigm and start over with every opportunity to capitalize on the mistakes from our sordid 61 years with the most evil organization on earth. People yearning to be free all over the globe would take hope, and despots would start looking for clean underwear.
In my opinion, the UN is as reformable as is Islam: NOT!
Nothing would tickle me more than to see Kofi Annan walking the streets of some foreign city playing a harmonica and holding out his tin cup. What a great symbol!
George - hyperemesis gravidarum - touché - Bolton hoped to make a new creature of the U.N., his "child", and all his efforts through a "difficult pregnancy" have come to naught.
The UN and Islam are hopeless cases and we shouldn't be expected to support either.

Eleanor,
Bolton did his best to put on the administrative support face, but he could not disguise his profound disgust. How do you think we can get the USA out the UN and the UN out of the USA?

I love that image.
Surely there is a better way to use NYC real estate than to host the useless UN!
